lance scout
Lance Scout’s roots run deep in southern Alberta communities. Raised in the Moses Lake area of the Blood Reserve, Lance attended Cardston High School. Around the age of 16, Lance moved away to work. He considers his musical interests (rhythm guitar, bass, performing in bands) a key to finding his direction in life and in developing an appreciation for people, for the cultural life of cities and other communities, and for the wide range of opportunities available to young people to grow beyond their childhood circumstances.
Lance’s employment over the years has revolved around helping people. He has been a counsellor, a youth mentor, and a contributor to numerous projects related to social inclusion and civil engagement, with a special interest in addressing poverty and violence issues. When Lance’s now 18 year old son was born, he became involved in Aboriginal community services. Watching people pass on at early ages has moved Lance to be a motivator for people to see the need for change and to want to become contributing, productive members of society. He currently serves as Coordinator for Kainai Community Corrections Society and is a member of the board of the Alberta Restorative Justice Association (ARJA). Lance enthusiastically supports the work of Shinah House.
