dR. bONNIE kAPLAN

Dr. Bonnie J. Kaplan, Ph.D.  is a research psychologist who studies mood and behavioral disorders. She is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, University of Calgary and is also Director of the Behavioral Research Unit at the Alberta Children's Hospital.
For many years, Kaplan has been studying developmental disorders in children, especially attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), reading disabilities (dyslexia), and motor problems (Developmental Coordination Disorder). She is part of a team from University of Calgary and University of British Columbia which is searching for the genes that predispose children to develop dyslexia, and is involved in some family studies of reading and attention problems also. With her students, she has been investigating the characteristics of adults with the challenging disorder of ADHD.

Most recently Kaplan has become interested in the mood symptoms that often accompany behavioural disorders, and she has been studying the role of micronutrient supplementation (vitamins and minerals) for the treatment of mood, aggression, and explosive rage.
